Pnevmocentr: Migrating a 30,000+ Product Catalog from MODX to CS-Cart

Pnevmocentr is the official Russian dealer of FESTO, a German manufacturer of pneumatic equipment and electromechanical automation systems. The company supplies industrial enterprises with pneumatic cylinders, compressed air preparation systems, pneumatic hoses, tubing, quick-release couplings, and other equipment. The catalog includes more than 30,000 items.

Industry: industrial equipment   Country: Russia

Client's Challenge

Pnevmocentr’s online store ran on MODX — an open-source content management system. It couldn’t meet the needs of a growing B2B store: flexible handling of product characteristics, configurations, brands, and legal entities. To keep growing, the client needed to move to a specialized e-commerce platform — CS-Cart — while preserving the entire catalog, SEO value of the pages, and convenience for regular wholesale buyers.

Main Tasks

  • Migrate the store from MODX to CS-Cart without losing the catalog, categories, or static pages.

  • Adapt the product page and catalog to the specifics of a technical B2B product range.

  • Separate individual and corporate users, with auto-fill for company details.

  • Add a brands block and related SEO pages.

  • Build a modern design on the ready-made UniTheme2 theme, based on the structure and logic of the existing site.

  • Preserve the link structure and set up 301 redirects to protect SEO rankings.

What We Did

Migrated the store from MODX
to CS-Cart

First, we analyzed the structure of the existing project and the MODX database to design the right migration and data-mapping approach. Based on this analysis, we wrote a specification for the required work and built a phased migration plan.

The migration included:

  • the catalog and products with all characteristics
  • categories
  • files and certificates
  • static pages
  • menus
  • link structure preservation and 301 redirect setup

We updated currency rates for products priced in euros or dollars using the standard CS-Cart add-on: the rate pulls from currency settings and updates daily based on Central Bank of Russia data, with no manual work needed from the administrator.

Built a design on UniTheme2

We built the new storefront design on the UniTheme2 theme, based on the structure and blocks of the client’s existing site — from the homepage and catalog to the account area and company pages (delivery, payment, certificates). This approach gave the client a modern, mobile-responsive storefront while keeping the navigation familiar to regular customers.

Adapted the product page for technical B2B equipment

We moved packaging information into a separate group of characteristics.

We also added to the product page:

  • a request-a-quote button, built on the standard form;
  • a print option for the product page — printing keeps only the core data and hides secondary information;
  • a consultation block: the administrator assigned to the parent category appears on the product page with a photo, name, and contact details from their profile;
  • quick-contact buttons for messaging apps (“Order via”);
  • tab navigation — an anchor menu at the top of the product page (Features / Description / Reviews / Questions) that smoothly scrolls to the relevant block on click. This helps on long product pages, so users don’t have to scroll manually.

Improved the catalog and filters

To make it easier to find equipment in a large catalog, we added filter tooltips, a range slider for numeric characteristics, and hid zero-priced products from filters.

Added supporting catalog functionality

  • a block of discounted products from the same category on the product and category pages;
  • a product count calculation shown in the category menu;
  • flexible positioning for additional category links (top, bottom, or both) with a display limit.

Built a brands block and brand SEO pages

For the product page, we added the All products from this brand block, showing the brand’s country, country of manufacture, certificates, and brand files.

On the homepage, we built a “Brands” block with a list of brands, images, and an alphabetical index, using the Cart-Power SEO for brand Pages add-on.

Set up handling for individual and corporate users

We implemented the Cart-Power “User and Vendor Account Types” add-on, which separates individual and corporate users starting at registration and checkout. For corporate users, we connected auto-suggestions and auto-fill for company details and addresses via DaData. This speeds up checkout for regular wholesale customers and reduces data-entry errors.

Protected content from bots

To prevent unwanted catalog scraping, we connected the Cart-Power Hide from Bots add-on: it hides characteristics in product listings and personalized content blocks from bots, and integrates analytics scripts.

Results

  • The store, with a catalog of 30,000+ products, moved from MODX to CS-Cart with no loss of data, categories, files, or link structure — 301 redirects preserved the SEO value of the pages.
  • The new storefront on UniTheme2 kept the site structure familiar to clients while gaining a modern, responsive design.
  • The product page and catalog now match the needs of a technical B2B product range: configurations, packaging, quote requests, and consultation with an assigned manager.
  • Checkout for corporate clients is faster, thanks to DaData auto-fill for company details.
  • The catalog is protected from unwanted bot scraping.
  • A brand SEO page with an alphabetical index and manufacturer cards was added.
